Our Sheep

At Crooked Fence Farm, our sheep are the heart and soul of everything we do, providing both the high-quality fleece used in our fiber art and the premium meat we offer. Each sheep, from the curious Olive with her striking black wool to the gentle Ewe Lamb with her soft, cream-colored fleece, is raised with the utmost care and respect.
Our sustainable farming practices ensure that our flock is healthy and happy, contributing to the exceptional quality of their wool and meat. By nurturing these animals in a loving and ethical environment, we honor their contributions to our farm and share the fruits of their labor with our community, offering both exquisite fiber art and delicious, responsibly-sourced meat products.

Ewe Lamb

age: 5 years

A bit about me

Her name is very unoriginal. She was a ewe lamb with the group of 7
She is a Scottish Blackface cross and makes adorable lambs. Her wool is very course and nearly 8″ to 10″ at the annual shearing.
She is like me and hates the heat.

Stella

age: 3 years

A bit about me

The lovely Stella is Ewe Lambs first ewe lamb. After only boys 3 years later little Stella arrived.

She is silly, has super floppy ears, and she is the sheep that complains the most when dinner is late.

Arcott

age: 7 years

A bit about me

I was running out of names when I named her apparently. As her name is her breed. Which stands for Agriculture Reserch Center of Ottawa. There are three kinds of Arcott, The Rideau, the Outaouis and the Canadian.

Arcott loves soaked alfala pellets and is retired from breeding and is enjoying life.

Piggy

age: 8 years

A bit about me

Piggy is a Texel. They sort of look like a pig, and she is a BIG lady. She does not fit in my scale without some effort, and even then its a tight squeeze. She is also Petunia’s mom.

Everytime I walk past with a bucket of water Piggy dives for the water and begs. She just loves drinking out of buckets.

Whitney

age: 3 Years

A bit about me

Whitney is a daughter of WhiteThing who I unfortunately no longer have. Whitney took the calm deminour of her mom. She loves to have her back rubbed and shows her appreciation with a tail wag.

Sadie

age: 2 years

A bit about me

My little Sadie is Stella’s first lamb. She looks like her mamma, with big soft eyes. She has the cutest little baa, She is a little needy and often paws at me if I stop petting her.

Dolly

age: 8 years

A bit about me

Dolly is an original 7 group. She looks different than any other sheep I have. She is an Oxford. Dolly has wool all the way to her toes.

Her nickname is Snagglepuss

Rosie

age: 5 years

A bit about me

Rosie is one of the original 7. She is a Oxford cross. Dolly is her mom. Rosie loves attention. When she chews her cud she looks like an old man with no teeth.

Petunia

age: 4 years

A bit about me

Petunia is also know as Pet, her mom Piggy was one of my original 7 sheep. Pet was in my first group of lambs. She weights over 200lbs and her favourite thing is to try and sit on my lap.

Olive

age: 2 years

A bit about me

Olive is my first and currently only black sheep. She is a very calm sheep and lets me do nearly anything with her. She loves her ears rubbed.

Honorable Mention Sheep.

2020 Babies: my first lambs ever group. Gimpy, is one of Arcotts twin girls. Poor little Gimpy got stepped on at three days old and broke her leg. It was quite a bad break, I had the vet out a few days after she was born as all of my efforts to keep inflammation and infection from increasing was not working. Gimpy had a really bad infection and needed her leg wound cleaned daily for over two weeks. My lovely vet stopped in when she saw my car at the barn to check on Gimpy. Who was by then running around on three legs full tilt with the rest of the lambs, she wasn’t fully healed but she was well on her way. Gimpy has had twins for me every year since.

2020 Lambs: Annie is the second of Arcott’s twins from 2020. While Annie is much shyer than her sister Gimpy, she will always quietly nose her way over for a treat or a scratch. She is a very curious girl, who prefers to watch you first before she comes over just to make sure you aren’t going to give her a pedicure. Annie has the softest brown eyes, and long black lashes. She passes this trait on to her adorable lambs, Annie like Gimpy has had twins every year, and she is a fantastic mom.

2020 Lambs: Petal is my precious Petunia’s first lamb. Petunia was and still is a big girl, and Petal indefinably takes after her mom. Petal has her mother’s impatient tendency for scratches and will paw at me if she does not get enough love. Petal

Petal does have the ears of a North Country Cheviot, she can thank her dad Nelson for them, her wide stance and wool free belly and tail are from the Texel side.

2020 Lambs: Flora and Blossom are Rosies twin girls. The cute pair have speckled brown faces and legs, with little top knots of fleece between their ears like mom. Flora is a much lighter brown, leaning towards a fawn color and Blossom is a deeper nut brown. It has taken Blossom a few years to become less skittish, but both sisters enjoy a nice face rub when they aren’t pushed away by the ewes.

2020 Purchased NCC ewes: 10 is my clown sheep. She always has the best reactions to new things. She also has a ripped ear that flops forward giving her more of a puppy dog look. 25 or Purdy has the most delicate refined face, she had always given me massive male lambs, one lamb was 21lbs. She has broken the theme of boys in 2022 with Sparkle who was sold to a 4H member and 2024 with Bunny. 11 has the best eyebrows. 32 or Maybel is one of the roughest ewes to me at least. She will bunt you for attention and use me as a scratching post.
